Indian Army’s High-Altitude Bike Rally Honors Kargil Heroes Ahead of 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas

LEH, JUNE 6: In a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War, the Indian Army’s “Forever in Operations Division” successfully conducted a four-day motorbike rally from Shinku La to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass as part of commemorations for the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas. The rally, held from June 3 to June 6, brought together Army personnel and representatives from associated agencies to honor the legacy of the Kargil heroes and celebrate the spirit of courage, endurance, and patriotism. The expedition commenced from Shinku La with 22 bikers and was later joined by 30 additional participants at Khumbathang and Kargil. Traversing approximately 572 kilometres through the rugged terrain of the Zanskar Ranges and the Greater Himalayas, the rally covered routes at altitudes exceeding 12,000 feet, showcasing the resilience and operational readiness of troops deployed in some of the country’s most challenging environments. The route passed through key locations including Padum, Sankoo, Khumbathang, Kargil, and Drass, offering participants a journey through both strategically significant and scenically remarkable regions of Ladakh. During the rally, participants interacted with local communities, promoting the messages of patriotism, national integration, and remembrance of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The initiative also highlighted the strategic importance of the region while drawing attention to its natural beauty and the demanding conditions faced by soldiers serving in high-altitude areas. The rally culminated at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, where participants paid homage to the martyrs of the 1999 Kargil War. A solemn ceremony was held to remember the valiant soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during Operation Vijay and to reaffirm the nation’s enduring gratitude towards its Armed Forces. The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to preserving the legacy of the Kargil heroes and inspiring future generations through the values of courage, patriotism, dedication, and selfless service to the nation.
