Srinagar, June 23 (ANB): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday expressed profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, for the Union Government’s approval of 19 major road and tunnel infrastructure projects for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The total sanctioned cost of these transformative projects stands at ₹10,637 crore.
Terming the decision a “landmark moment” in J&K’s developmental journey, LG Sinha said the approved projects will not only improve road connectivity but also act as a catalyst for socio-economic growth in the region. According to the News Service Associated News Bureau ANB That The list of major sanctioned projects includes the strategic Peer Ki Gali Tunnel and Sadhana Tunnel, both aimed at ensuring year-round connectivity in high-altitude and snow-prone areas. Also greenlit is the Zaznar-Shopian section of NH-701A, which is expected to enhance inter-district connectivity in South Kashmir.
Urban infrastructure also gets a boost with the approval of a 4-lane flyover from Lal Chowk to Parimpora in Srinagar and the 4-lane Magam flyover on the Narbal-Gulmarg road. Additionally, the Trehgam-Chamkote section of NH-701 and the Qazigund Bypass have been cleared, promising to ease traffic and support tourism and trade.
“These projects reflect the Centre’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure-led growth in Jammu & Kashmir. They will play a crucial role in integrating remote regions and building a modern, accessible road network,” LG Sinha said. ANB
