Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended the 150th year celebration of ‘Vande Mataram’, organised by the Department of Culture in Jammu on Friday.
The Lieutenant Governor paid glowing tributes to Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the revered author of India’s National Song, and inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to ‘Vande Mataram’.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor said that Rishi Bankim Chandra strengthened the sacred bond between Maa Bharti and her sons, inspiring generations of Indians to strive for freedom and self-reliance.
> “Our commitment and dedication to the motherland will take our nation to its destiny of a Viksit Bharat. The young generation must remember that they are inheritors of this great civilization, and their contribution to the progress and prosperity of society will be a fitting tribute to Maa Bharti,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The year 2025 marks 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’. The National Song, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay during the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami on November 7, 1875, first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his celebrated novel Anandamath.
Invoking the Motherland as the embodiment of strength, prosperity, and divinity, ‘Vande Mataram’ gave poetic voice to India’s awakening spirit of unity, courage, and self-respect. Over time, it became an enduring symbol of devotion to the nation and a rallying cry for freedom.
The celebrations also featured a Mass Singing of the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’, with enthusiastic participation from citizens across all walks of life, reflecting the timeless spirit of national pride and togetherness.
Prominent dignitaries present on the occasion included Shri Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament; Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha; Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shri Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary, Home; Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu; Shri Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary, Culture; and Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
Administrative secretaries, senior officials, heads of educational institutions, youth representatives, and prominent citizens also attended the event. Officials and people from across Jammu and Kashmir joined the UT-level commemorative celebration through virtual mode.
