PM Reviews West Asia Conflict Impact, Directs Whole-of-Government Response

New Delhi, March 22, 2026 (ANB):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the evolving situation arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and assess India’s preparedness to mitigate its potential impact.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary presented a comprehensive overview of the global scenario and outlined the measures already undertaken, as well as those in the pipeline, across various ministries and departments. The discussion covered key sectors including agriculture, fertilisers, food security, petroleum, power, MSMEs, exports, shipping, trade, finance, and supply chains.
The CCS conducted a detailed assessment of the possible short, medium, and long-term implications of the West Asia conflict on the global economy and its consequential impact on India. Immediate and strategic countermeasures were deliberated to safeguard national economic stability.
A sector-wise review of essential commodities crucial for the common citizen—such as food, fuel, and energy—was undertaken. The government examined contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted availability of these necessities, with structured strategies for short-term, medium-term, and long-term implementation.
The impact on the agricultural sector, particularly fertiliser availability for the upcoming Kharif season, was also evaluated. Officials noted that sustained efforts in recent years to maintain adequate fertiliser stocks would help ensure timely supply and uphold food security. Alternative sourcing strategies were also discussed to strengthen future resilience.
The meeting further concluded that sufficient coal reserves at power plants would prevent any disruption in electricity supply across the country.
In view of potential disruptions to imports, especially in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals, the government is exploring diversification of sourcing channels. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to identify and expand new export destinations for Indian goods.
The Prime Minister directed the formation of a dedicated group of ministers and senior officials to adopt a coordinated, whole-of-government approach in addressing emerging challenges. Sector-specific groups will also engage with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of policy responses.
Describing the conflict as a rapidly evolving global challenge, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for proactive measures to shield citizens from its adverse effects. He instructed all arms of the government to work in close coordination with state authorities to prevent black-marketing and hoarding of essential commodities, ensuring minimal disruption to public life.
