Srinagar, Jan 14, ANB: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir has launched two separate Preliminary Enquiries (PEs) into alleged irregularities involving the Srinagar Smart City Ltd. projects.
According to a spokesperson in a statement to Associated News Bureau reads, the first enquiry, registered as PE No. 01/2025 at the Anti-Corruption Bureau Police Station in Srinagar, pertains to suspected misappropriation of materials such as Devri stones, path tiles, and iron grills. Reports suggest that these materials, intended for the city’s beautification and redevelopment initiatives, may have been siphoned off and sold in the open market for personal gain instead of being accounted for in the Engineering Division’s inventory.
Further it reads that, the second investigation, PE No. 02/2025, focuses on the use of substandard materials in development work along the Foreshore Road in Nishat, including the construction of a cycle track, footpath, and viewing decks facing Dal Lake. This project, which stretches from Nishat to Naseem Bagh PHC, is under scrutiny for quality compromises. Allegations indicate that officials from Srinagar Smart City Ltd., in collusion with a contractor, bypassed mandatory procedures, thereby compromising the quality of the work.
Both enquiries are currently underway, with the ACB intensifying its probe to uncover the full extent of the alleged malpractices. (ANB)
