Srinagar, March 30: ANB: Acting swiftly on a viral video highlighting unhygienic tea blending practices, the Food Safety Department has taken strict action against a local unit found violating hygiene norms.
Officials told the News Service Associated News Bureau ANB, The team of Food Safety Officers conducted a raid at the identified location soon after the video surfaced on social media. During the inspection, it was observed that tea blending and packing operations were being carried out on the floor under extremely unhygienic conditions.
The inspection further revealed the use of non-food-grade equipment in the blending process, raising serious concerns over public health and safety.
In view of these violations, authorities have sealed the processing area where the tea blending activity was taking place until further orders. Two samples of tea—one loose and one packaged—have been collected from the premises and sent for laboratory testing to ascertain quality and safety standards.
The department has reiterated its directive to all Food Business Operators to strictly adhere to prescribed hygiene and safety norms at their establishments. It warned that any failure to comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act will invite stringent legal action. ANB
