Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today informed the Legislative Assembly that the drainage system along the Ring Road in Budgam is functioning satisfactorily, ensuring proper disposal of surface and sub-surface water.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Ali Mohammad Dar, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that a comprehensive technical assessment of drainage and cross-drainage structures was undertaken at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. Based on this assessment, adequate provisions were incorporated into the project design.
He informed the House that the project includes 148 box culverts, 107 Hume Pipe Culverts (HPCs), and 24 Minor Nallah Bridges (MNBs) to facilitate effective water discharge.
The Deputy Chief Minister added that there are currently no persistent water-logging issues at the box culverts along the newly constructed Ring Road, including at Khanda, Kuzwaria, Bugam, Wathora and other locations. He acknowledged that temporary water accumulation had been observed during the construction phase of the Greenfield project; however, the issue was resolved upon completion of the drainage structures, and the system is now operating smoothly.
He further stated that although no reports of water-logging have been received, any such issue, if it arises, will be addressed through appropriate measures, including additional construction works if necessary.
