DGP J&K Reviews Security Preparedness for Republic Day 2026

Srinagar, Jan 19: To ensure comprehensive security arrangements for the Republic Day 2026 celebrations, Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat, on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Conference Hall of PCR Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the J&K Police, intelligence agencies, the Army, Central Armed Police Forces and other security agencies. The deliberations focused on assessing preparedness and strengthening coordination among all stakeholders for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Republic Day events across the Valley.
At the outset, officers briefed the DGP on prevailing intelligence inputs, security measures and deployment plans, highlighting steps being taken to safeguard public spaces, secure designated venues and maintain overall law and order.
During the review, the DGP assigned specific responsibilities to officers with clear instructions for precise and time-bound execution. Key issues discussed included crowd management, traffic regulation, strategic deployment of forces, protection of vulnerable targets and effective utilisation of intelligence inputs. He also stressed the importance of close monitoring of social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation that could impact public safety.
The DGP directed intensified surveillance of anti-national elements and enhanced area domination measures. The Traffic Wing was instructed to put in place a robust traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement of the general public as well as protected persons. Security arrangements for highways, link roads, railway tracks and stations across the Valley were also reviewed.
SSP Security Kashmir was directed to implement a comprehensive security plan at the main venue, taking into account all possible security concerns.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve by all agencies to ensure peaceful, secure and incident-free Republic Day celebrations across Jammu and Kashmir.
