J&K ACB Catches Junior Assistant Red-Handed Accepting Rs 15,000 Bribe in Jammu

Jammu, September 2 (ANB): The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the Office of the Assistant Commissioner (General), Jammu, for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹15,000 bribe in connection with the issuance of a Marriage Certificate. The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar, son of late Ram Murti, a resident of Gango Chack, Gajansoo, Jammu. The ACB said it received a written complaint alleging that Kumar had demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant for facilitating the issuance of a Marriage Certificate under the Special Marriage Act, 1954. The amount was subsequently negotiated down to ₹15,000. Following discreet verification of the allegations, the ACB said a prima facie case of demand for illegal gratification was established. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Central J&K, Jammu, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. The agency subsequently constituted a trap team and laid a trap. During the operation, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the ₹15,000 bribe from the complainant. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was arrested on the spot. The ACB also conducted searches at the accused's residential premises in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses. Further investigation into the case is underway.
