Lieutenant Governor Pays Tributes to General Zorawar Singh on Martyrdom Day


Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to the legendary warrior, commander, and military strategist General Zorawar Singh on his Martyrdom Day.

“General Zorawar Singh’s vision inspired generations by igniting passion and guiding people towards shared courage, purpose, and commitment to greater ideals,” the Lt Governor said.

Speaking at a commemorative event in Jammu, the Lt Governor highlighted General Zorawar Singh’s historic military campaigns across Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit, and Skardu, noting his decisive role in the expansion of the Dogra Empire.

He urged the youth and society at large to embrace General Zorawar Singh’s message of moral clarity and unwavering conviction to build a stronger future and uplift the marginalised.

“Let us dedicate ourselves to transforming lives, supporting the youth, and building a more just and peaceful society,” the Lt Governor added.

Reaffirming the Government of India’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour General Zorawar Singh’s contributions, the Lt Governor noted that an advanced indigenous light tank has been named after the celebrated commander. He also mentioned the establishment of the General Zorawar Singh Chair at the University of Jammu, along with initiatives encouraging younger generations to study his military legacy and societal vision.

The event was attended by MLA Vikram Randhawa, Devinder Singh Kaluria, Chairman of the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Education and Charitable Trust, Trustees Riya Kaluria and Diksha Kaluria, Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), President of J&K Ex-Services League, Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma, and several other dignitaries, citizens, and representatives from various organisations.

Also present were Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal (Retd.), Padma Shri Dr SP Varma, President of Gandhi Global Family J&K, Col. Karan Singh (Retd.), President of Dogra Sadar Sabha, along with ex-servicemen and senior officials from the Army, civil administration, and police.
