Media-Government Synergy Highlighted at PIB Srinagar’s “Varta” Workshop

Srinagar | 16 July 2025
The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Government of India, Srinagar, hosted a media workshop titled “Varta” on Tuesday, aimed at strengthening dialogue and collaboration between media professionals and government institutions. The day-long event saw participation from senior journalists and representatives across print, television, and digital platforms, who engaged in open discussions on responsible journalism, communication strategies, and public welfare outreach.

The workshop was inaugurated by Nitish Rajora, Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, who served as the Chief Guest. Shri Qazi Salman, Director, PIB Srinagar, also addressed the gathering, while Shri Sunil Koul, Assistant Director, PIB Srinagar, delivered the welcome note.

In his address,  Rajora emphasized the media’s indispensable role as the fourth pillar of democracy, especially in sensitive and strategically significant regions like Jammu and Kashmir. “In an era where misinformation often outpaces facts, the responsibility of journalists is more critical than ever,” he noted, advocating for a collaborative framework between media and public institutions to ensure timely, accurate, and transparent communication.

Qazi Salman, in his remarks, highlighted India’s transformation over the past decade, attributing the country’s growth trajectory to inclusive development models and citizen-focused governance. “We have not only doubled our GDP but ensured access to healthcare for over 50 crore citizens, empowered farmers with modern tools and support systems, and fostered a collective sense of national self-reliance,” he said.

As part of the workshop, presentations spotlighted flagship government initiatives in the health and agriculture sectors.

Dr. Waseem Akram, Operations Manager, State Health Agency, J&K, detailed the achievements under Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY and PMJAY Sehat schemes. Since December 2018, over 95% of families in J&K have received Golden Cards, leading to more than 17 lakh treatments valued at ₹3,120 crore. Additionally, over ₹124 crore worth of medical treatments have been facilitated outside the UT, and more than 130 private hospitals have been empanelled under the scheme.

From SKUAST–Kashmir, Dr. Amal Saxena and Dr. Liyaqat Ali Chowdhury presented the ongoing efforts under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan. The campaign aims to disseminate modern farming practices directly to farmers, including drone technology, climate-resilient agriculture, high-density plantation methods, and real-time agro-advisory systems.

Interactive feedback sessions followed each presentation, offering media personnel the opportunity to pose questions and provide insights.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing PIB’s commitment to fostering informed public discourse and reinforcing the critical partnership between media and governance in Jammu and Kashmir. ANB
