Pathania Calls Uniform Civil Code a Constitutional Vision, Not a Political Agenda
Udhampur: BJP leader and MLA from Udhampur East, R.S. Pathania, has welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s commitment to pursue implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across NDA-ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, describing the initiative as a constitutional vision rather than merely a political agenda.
Pathania said Article 44 of the Constitution reflects the vision of the Constitution-makers, who directed the State to endeavour to secure a Uniform Civil Code for all citizens across the country.
“Article 44 reflects the vision of our Constitution-makers, who mandated the State to endeavour to secure a Uniform Civil Code for all citizens across India. Unfortunately, for decades, vote-bank politics overshadowed this constitutional direction,” he said.
He maintained that the renewed focus on the UCC could mark a significant step towards equal citizenship, uniform civil rights and justice without discrimination.
“India cannot have different civil laws for citizens on the basis of religion. The time has come to realise the constitutional vision of our founding fathers,” Pathania said.
He reiterated that the principle of a common civil framework was aimed at ensuring equality before the law and strengthening the idea of equal citizenship.
“One Nation. Equal Citizenship. Equal Civil Law. Equal Justice,” Pathania said.
