Budgam Police, in close coordination with the Mining Department, ramped up its crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals across the district throughout November 2025.
Under the supervision of senior officers, teams from various Police Stations and Police Posts launched sustained operations in Khansahib, Suranhall Batpora, Beerwah, Narbal, Magam, Hardupanzo, Budgam, Charar-i-Shareif, Waterhail and Chadoora.
The month-long drive led to the arrest of 12 individuals involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. Police registered 06 FIRs and seized 39 vehicles, including 11 tippers/dumpers, 21 tractors, 6 JCBs, and 1 L&T machine. Heavy penalties were also imposed on violators.
Reiterating its resolve to protect natural resources, police said that strict vigilance will continue at all vulnerable locations to curb illegal mining and ensure compliance with mining and environmental laws. Citizens have been urged to alert authorities about any such activities to safeguard the district’s fragile riverine ecosystem.
