64 Additional Posts Sanctioned for B&J Hospital Srinagar to Strengthen Specialised Healthcare Services

JAMMU, APRIL 05: In a significant move to bolster specialised healthcare services in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Sunday announced that the Government has sanctioned the creation of 64 additional posts for the Bone and Joint (B&J) Hospital, Srinagar.
The decision is aimed at making the newly constructed additional block of the hospital fully operational and enhancing its overall service capacity. The Minister stated that the move is part of the Government’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and ensure delivery of quality medical services to the public.
She said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the construction of the 120-bedded additional block at the hospital was expedited and subsequently dedicated to public use. Initially, medical services in the new block were managed through internal arrangements and optimal deployment of existing manpower to maintain uninterrupted patient care.
Highlighting the growing patient load and increasing demand for specialised services, the Minister said that a comprehensive assessment of staffing requirements was carried out by the Health and Medical Education Department.
Following this, the Council of Ministers, headed by the Chief Minister, approved the creation of 64 posts across multiple categories to strengthen institutional capacity and streamline service delivery at the hospital.
The sanctioned posts include positions for Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Microbiology, along with Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nursing staff, technicians, administrative personnel and other support staff necessary for efficient functioning.
The Minister emphasised that strengthening institutions like the Bone and Joint Hospital is vital for improving trauma care, orthopaedic treatment and emergency response services across the Kashmir division. She reiterated the Government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility through systematic expansion of infrastructure, augmentation of manpower and improved service delivery mechanisms.
