GST Council Decisions to Strengthen J&K’s Fiscal Position: Omar Abdullah
NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 8: Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Thursday attended the 57th meeting of the GST Council, chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in New Delhi.
The meeting brought together Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers from across the country, besides senior officials of the Union Ministry of Finance.
The Council held detailed discussions on various issues concerning the Goods and Services Tax (GST), with particular focus on strengthening the fiscal capacity of States and Union Territories, enhancing revenue mobilisation and promoting balanced fiscal federalism.
Participating in the deliberations in his capacity as Finance Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah expressed confidence that the decisions taken by the GST Council would contribute to further strengthening the Union Territory’s fiscal position.
He said the measures would also help support economic growth, accelerate development and strengthen public welfare initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir. ANB
