Lieutenant Governor Inaugurates APCON 2025 at GMC Jammu, Emphasizes AI and Precision Medicine in Healthcare

Jammu, 4th December 2025: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Thursday inaugurated the 73rd Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists (IAPM) and the International Academy of Pathologists – Indian Division (IAP-ID), APCON 2025, at Government Medical College, Jammu.

The five-day conference, themed “Emerging Trends in Pathology: From Morphology to Molecular Insights,” has brought together leading pathologists and microbiologists to discuss the latest advancements and innovations shaping the field of pathology.

In his keynote address, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data analytics into diagnostic processes to enhance accuracy and reduce turnaround times. He highlighted the importance of bridging science and medicine to strengthen healthcare delivery.

“Healthcare systems must focus on improving diagnostic accuracy and reducing time to treatment. Mainstreaming Precision Medicine through advanced diagnostic tests is essential. Laboratories should develop modern infrastructure to convert data into actionable clinical insights for doctors,” Shri Sinha said.

He also outlined strategic steps to improve public health and preventive care. “Firstly, empower the pathology field with cutting-edge technologies and establish standard protocols for patient care through multidisciplinary research. Secondly, bridge gaps in educational programs by developing new training modules,” he added.

Highlighting the historic transformation in healthcare under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Lieutenant Governor urged stakeholders to expand digital health records and the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) facility to remote areas, linking smaller health centers with advanced laboratories for expert guidance.

“Building a modern healthcare system and enhancing the quality of life for all remains our goal. Collaboration between public and private sectors is crucial to provide dedicated diagnostic facilities in remote regions and reduce the time between diagnosis and treatment,” he said.

The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal GMC Jammu; Dr. Usha Kini, President IAPM; Dr. Reeni Mallik, Vice President IAPM; Dr. Ranjan Agarwal, Honorary Secretary IAPM; office bearers of IAPM and IAP-ID, along with senior pathologists and medical professionals.
